Japanese Language N5 Course

Course Overview: The N5 course is designed for beginners who wish to build a solid foundation in the Japanese language. This course covers the essential grammar, vocabulary, hiragana, katakana and kanji needed to understand and communicate in simple Japanese.

Course Objectives:

  • Practice writing with Hiragana & Katakana alphabets.
  • Understand basic Japanese grammar points and sentence structures.
  • Build a vocabulary of approximately 850 words.
  • Recognize and write around 110 essential kanji characters.
  • Develop basic conversational skills for everyday situations.
  • Gain insights into Japanese culture and customs.

Course Content:

Writing & Reading:

  • Introduction to Hiragana & katakana Alphabets.
  • Practice writing with main 46 characters and combined characters of hiragana & katakana.
  • Practice reading comprehension through various texts.

Grammar:

  • Introduction to basic sentence structures.
  • 1st to 25th lesson of Minna no Nihongo.
  • Mastery of the 45 most essential particles.
  • Around 200 Verb conjugations.
  • Usage of roughly 100 basic Adjectives.

Vocabulary:

  • Everyday vocabulary, approximately 850 words.
  • Common phrases for shopping, travel, and social interactions.

Kanji:

  • Introduction to the basics of kanji.
  • Learning to read and write 110 essential kanji characters.
  • Understanding simple kanji compounds and their meanings.

Listening and Speaking:

  • Practice listening to everyday conversations.
  • Engage in simple dialogues and role-playing exercises.
  • Emphasis on pronunciation and intonation.

Exams & Past papers:

  • Assessments after every five lessons to evaluate understanding and retention.
  • Each exam will cover vocabulary, grammar, kanji, and listening comprehension from the previous lessons.
  • JLPT, NAT, JLCT past papers for better preparation.

Course Format:

  • Materials: Minna no Nihongo Textbook, Nihongo sou Matome N5 kanji book, Shinkanzen masuta listening book and supplementary online resources.
  • Assessments: Quizzes, participation, and exams to gauge progress.
