Japanese Language for Kids

Class Overview: This class introduces children to the basics of the Japanese language, helping them develop fundamental communication skills through engaging, age-appropriate activities. Students will learn to read, write, speak, and understand simple Japanese words and sentences while exploring Japanese culture and customs.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognize and write Hiragana and Katakana.
  • Gradually build a vocabulary of approximately 500 words.
  • Recognize and write basically essential kanji characters.
  • Develop basic conversational skills for everyday situations.
  • Gain insights into Japanese culture and customs.

Course Content:

Writing & Reading:

  • Introduction to Hiragana & katakana Alphabets.
  • Practice writing with main 46 characters and combined characters of hiragana & katakana.
  • Practice reading comprehension through various texts.

Grammar:

  • Introduction to basic sentence structures.
  • Basic & essential particles.
  • Practice essential verb conjugations.
  • Usage of basic Adjectives.

Vocabulary:

  • Everyday vocabulary, gently building a strong vocabulary.
  • Common phrases for shopping, travel, and social interactions.

Kanji:

  • Introduction to the basics of kanji.
  • Learning to read and write essential kanji characters.
  • Understanding simple kanji compounds and their meanings.

Listening and Speaking:

  • Practice listening to everyday conversations.
  • Engage in simple dialogues and role-playing exercises.
  • Emphasis on pronunciation and intonation.

Assessments:

  • Progress will be monitored through interactive quizzes, oral practice, and fun written assignments.

Class Format:

  • Materials: Minna no Nihongo Textbook, Nihongo sou Matome kanji book, Shinkanzen masuta listening book and supplementary online resources.
  • Assessments: Quizzes, participation, and exams to gauge progress.
